USA : AZ : Page → Cameron : May 2016

With the time change, and waking up when it got light out as I was sleeping in the open, sans bivvy, I was packed up and headed back into Page before 6am. Not much was open yet, so I went to Safeway, stocked up, grabbed a Starbucks latte, and dicked around, tracing my route through

I woke up, got up, coffee’d up, showered up, and packed up. I said goodbye to Manfred, a lumbering and somewhat strange German guy who had been nursing a debilitating leg cramp by laying prostrate in the recliner in the Cowboy Bunkhouse library for the duration of my time in Kanab, along with Joanne and

After waking up in my ice-encrusted bivvy, the sun was rising but quickly being obscured by cloud cover. I melted/dried what I could, but then resigned to packing away a lot of my gear still wet. Riding on about 7 miles, I got to a Chevron which had internet, decent coffee, and Bob and Ray,

Life on the bicycle is getting a touch routine. Avoidance of routine was one major thing that motivated me to quit the job and get on the bicycle, so it’s not ideal that eat/cycle/sleep is getting as familiar as it is, but I realize it’s also somewhat unavoidable. On the plus side, I’m learning to

I got up as Judy and Kerry were rigging up their trailer and packing up. They offered me a cup of coffee that I gladly accepted, calling it ‘hot liquid mood enhancer’. Not long after, they were ready to roll and we wished each other farewell. Loaded up, I rode down to the small bakery

The WordPress Android app is SUPER frustrating to use with poor internet and posts with pictures. I’ll try and add the pictures later, but I’m giving up on including them for the time being. 😦 After a luxurious night in the La Quinta, the morning consisted of a superfluous shower, gorging on the complimentary breakfast,

After publishing my previous post, morning of Day 10, I finished breakfast, removed the fenders from my bicycle, said goodbye to Denali, the super sweet guy that made breakfasts and dinners for donations, and looked like a kindly wizard in a cowboy hat, I rode down the road a bit and met up with Gabrielle,

Having fallen asleep so early the night before, I woke up real early and felt totally refreshed. As mentioned in previous post, I did laundry, enjoyed a long breakfast in the bistro, did some minor repairs and such, then took off. Not a lot to report. Got some light rain and narrowly avoided heavier rain.

After waking up, packing up, and doing some picnic table yoga which is as silly looking as it sounds, but invented for the sake of my back by my brain none-too-soon, I was surprised to be briefly interrupted by other actual humans stopping by to use the campground toilet. From there I breezed into Paonia

One thing about sleeping somewhere you’re not totally supposed to be sleeping is there’s no temptation to loaf around come sunrise. At 6:45 am I was lying down, mustering the will to get up and pack up when a jogger passed headed towards Carbondale. He didn’t notice me but it motivated me to get going.
